Living in Wellington
Wellington is south Lexington's everyday-convenience champion — established family streets wrapped around Shillito Park, with Fayette Mall inside the neighborhood and an A-rated school path that starts at the elementary school in its center. It's the rare neighborhood where the park, the schools, and the shopping are all yours without getting on a road.
Wellington grew up in the 1970s and after, as south Lexington filled in along Nicholasville Road, and its subdivisions — Wellington, Monticello, Robinwood — kept the family-first character they were planned with: cul-de-sacs, sidewalks, and schools inside the neighborhood. The retail that followed, including Kentucky's largest shopping mall, turned the location into one of the south side's most complete.
