About the Neighborhood

Living in Stonewall

Stonewall is southwest Lexington's quiet classic — established streets where ranches sit on some of the city's most generous lots, both neighborhood schools rate A-minus and sit within walking distance, and a genuinely active neighborhood association keeps the community connected. Homes here don't turn over often, and when they do, buyers move quickly. There's a reason.
Stonewall was built out from the 1950s through the '90s across several subdivisions, and the long build-out gave it range: classic mid-century ranches on one street, larger '80s and '90s homes on the next. Some blocks overlook horse pasture at the neighborhood's edge — a reminder that when Stonewall was planned, this was where Lexington met the farms.

Neighborhood guide

Inside Stonewall

  • Stonewall's appeal is space and settledness. Lots here run noticeably larger than the Lexington norm, the trees are mature, and depending on your street you might back up to a horse pasture or sit a block from the sledding hill at Stonewall Park.

The neighborhood association runs year-round events, both neighborhood schools are walkable for many blocks, and parks, locally owned restaurants, and groceries all sit nearby. It's the kind of neighborhood people stay in for decades — inventory is scarce because nobody's eager to leave.

Schools

Schools in Stonewall

Assigned Schools

Both neighborhood schools rate A-minus by Niche (as reported by homes.com's local guide), and both sit inside the neighborhood: Stonewall Elementary, then Jessie M. Clark Middle School. The path continues to A-rated Lafayette High School in nearby Picadome — home of the audition-based School for the Creative and Performing Arts.

The A-minus-rated Lexington Christian Academy is close by for families weighing a private option.

Assignments vary block by block, so we verify by address before you write an offer.
